Jacob Akana
Jacob Akana is a Musician and Producer from Northern California. He was first introduced to music in the 4th grade where he learned to play violin from Sheri Eby. Akana began performing live at the age of 11 with the California State Old Time Fiddlers Association (C.S.O.T.F.A) at open mics and small concerts around his home town. In the years following, Akana would teach himself to play guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, piano and ukulele, in addition to learning how to setup and run live sound, from his longtime friend, fellow musician and mentor, Tom Spence. Akana went on to become a 4x State Flatpicking Champion and a 3x Western Open Flatpicking Champion. He is now the President of Dist. 6 of the C.S.O.T.F.A and continues to jam at festivals and judge Fiddle and Flatpick contests across the state.
While performing in his high school jazz ensamble, he met Emily Stolz, Rob Trent and Caden Potter where they formed the band Major 7th, and performed across Northern California. Eventually Danny Lindberg and Brandon Mendez joined the group as well.
In 2019, Akana grew an interest towards recording. So he built a recording studio, and began learning about audio mixing and production. Since then he has learned recording, mixing and mastering, and continues to hone his craft.
In 2021, Akana decided to resurrect the Major 7th branding, only this time as an Independent Record Label: Major 7th Records. M7R is run by and for musicians, and works with up and coming musicians by giving them a path toward an independent music career. Click here to learn more.
Akana writes, records, arranges, mixes and masters all of his own tracks, in addition to producing music for other artists, podcasts and radio shows like The Viva Downtown – Downtown Discussion and The Enjoy Exceptional Living radio broadcast.
